Earchi Chor / Meat Rice

Salut!

Today I thought of bringing a very requested recipe of Thalassery’s special Earchi Chor / Meat rice. Throughout my college years, I’ve seen my friends drooling over this meaty rice dish. It’s a dish that can make you happy after a long tiring day, as it is extremely flavorful and has no complicated steps to reach the steaming bowl of meaty goodness.

Let’s not delay and get straight into it.

Serves: 4

Ingredients:

  • Rice (biryani rice / jeerakasala) : 2.5 cup

  • Meat of your choice : 1/2 to 3/4 kg

  • Onion : 2 medium

  • Tomato : 1 big

  • Ginger : 1/2 tsp

  • Garlic : 1/2 tsp

  • Green chili : 5-6

  • Curry leave : 10-15 leaves

  • Coriander powder : 4 tsp

  • Chilli powder : 2 tsp

  • Turmeric : 1/2 tsp

  • Garam masala : 1 tsp

  • Salt to taste

  • Lime juice : 1

  • Ghee : 1 tbsp

  • Water : 3 cup (meat will release water while cooking)

Method:

  1. Add the meat, onion, tomato, ginger garlic, chillies, curry leaves, salt and all masalas in a cooker. Add a dash of water and let it cook. Cooking time may vary as per the meat. One whistle in high flame and then 2-3 in low flame. Check for the doneness of the meat. If required wait for 1-2 more whistles.

  2. Once done, transfer the meat masala into a deep pan, you would see that the meat has released a lot of water. Add the extra water needed for the rice to cook (approximately 2.5 to 3 cups of water).

  3. Add salt as per taste, add the ghee and the washed rice to the water.

  4. Squeeze one lime into the pot and cook the rice in low flame (covered)

Serve this hot with a nice side salad of vegetable raita.

There you have a nice savoury meat rice to spice up your tiring day.

Give it a try and let me know how you like it.

Thank you 🖤
